Government announces rules to force all schools to promote vocational career options

I’m not one of the fans of the current government, but I applaud its latest plan to make all schools promote vocational career options. I think learning through work is the most effective way to gain relevant skills.

What is your take on this latest initiative?

Great idea. Not every child is cut out for an academic career and University, and if they can opt for studying plumbing or hairdressing then that makes a lot of sense.

If I was given a chance, I would have had studied hairdressing, but where I came from, it wasn’t considered a career option.

One problem with promoting a vocational career at such a young age is that the child may get rigidly boxed into that career path and therefore more vulnerable to becoming redundant later on in his or her life if things change for the worse in that industry.
